Ray Gunston

Started with Strathmore with the Essendon Midgets with Bill Wilkinson and Syd McGain in 1967 and 1968, playing all games in the second year and playing in and losing the first semi-final on the MCG.

Next 6 years played Under 13’s through to Under 17’s under various coaches including Jeff Nickson, and various premiership teams.

From 1975 to 1978 played senior football which included 1975 A Reserves B&F and EDFL representation in 1978.

After 3 years in the VFA with Brunswick returned to Strathmore in 1982 and played until 1989.  Played in the premiership team in 1984 and was the runner in the 1989 premiership team after another knee operation.

In 1976 and 1977 I coached the Under 13’s and in 1977 coached the under 13A premiership team. From 1985 to 1988 I was on the Committee of the Club and was the Treasurer on that Committee.

I was very proud and honoured to have received Life Membership in 1989 from the Club that had honoured both my parents previously with Life Memberships given their dedication and love for the Club and the people they enjoyed being with at the Club.
